For that jazz cat lurking inside, try the following CD for some sophisticated purr-fection.
The five pros that compose the Jumpin' Chi-Chi's are a notable bunch: trumpeter/lead vocalist Reid McCoy; sax man Jim Spake; bassist Sam Shoup; keyboardist Tony Thomas, and drummer Tom Lonardo. It'd take a phone book, in fact, to list the sessions these locals have played on over the years.
But when it comes to simply cutting loose, they find collective fun as the Jumpin' Chi-Chi's, a jazzy quintet that, on its eponymous debut disc (self-released, ), aims to meet every Happy Hour mood. And that translates to a grab bag of self-penned, often ribald novelty numbers, from the jump blues of "322 Pearl Ave." (with its W. C. Fields-inspired lyrics) and Rufus Thomas-worthy funk in "Can't Get Down" to the Hawaiian-cast "Wicky Wacky" and a N'Awlins-meets-Bo Diddley vamp, "Let's Do Chi Chi." Virtuoso-delivered silliness has rarely sounded so good.

Rootin tootin fun
author: jammin jayI really enjoyed the track on the end of that movie "tail to the cheif" I actually kept rewinding it back to the credits just to jam out on it over and over. "Down at the Monkey" is a bad ass tune that makes you just want to get up and move your can. Thanks guys for bringing that sound back. If you're ever in San Antonio, Tx. Please let me know I would love to see you guys LIVE... Thanks, Jammin Jay
The Jumpin' Chi-Chi's
author: Debbie B.This album is 100% great to listen to!! I do enjoy the ribald humor, too, however, it's the music that gets the rating here!!! You all remind of a great Canadian band, the Downchild Blues Band, only your jazz is livlier, kinda like the Blues Brothers' remakes of their songs. I hope there is a next album, and I hope I can find out where to buy a Jerk-seeking Missle!!!! FYI, we heard of you with "Down at the Monkey" that was played at the end of the movie whose name is escaping me right now :(
white cotton panties
author: Thomas J. Bakeras a jazzjock at u92 and the official president of the fanclub I enjoyed the music but most of all "white cotton panties" but, unfortunately it was banned there at U-92 for mentioning the word panties and rightfully so,. I mean it was embarassing when I got busted at the speak-easy with an actual copy of the cd in my trenchcoat by Federal Marshals. I pleaded guilty by means of insanity and the judge agreed. He asked me if I had repented of my wicked ways. I said of course
these dudes are tight....bust a move!
author: rodfathercomming from memphis myself, i was glad to see that there is still some artist out there that can produce the great sound that this city is famous for.....loved the cd and cant wait for a new one!

I lost most of my bodily fluids listening to this CD
author: Philip Grady SmithI laughed, I cried and I lost most of my bodily fluids listening to the Jumpin Chi Chis. Reid McCoy is a musical genius and the players are ALL top drawer. I keep telling anyone that will listen to get this CD. I just could not stop laughing, applauding and saying right on dude with every cut. Inspired is too tame a word. Original, highly creative, cookin', in fact this CD is downright, well, Chi Chi!! The BEST thang to come out of Memphis in a long, long, long time. Do another one dudes!!!!!
The Wildest better fun and hide!
author: Dr. MoonHere's a brand new slant on what Louis and Sam were doin' back in the day. The Chi-Chis really put the spin on pop jazz with the craziest originals. Excellent performances, wonderful solos and lot's of unpredictablity. A "MUST HAVE" for those of you who have it all! Let's dance!
More "T " for the money
author: Jim PoorSo far I've found double the normal amount of "T's" in this amazing piece of work- Virtuosity, Creativity, Originality and Hilarity! Keep those "T's" jumping. Thanks guys
Real Talent.... Real Music......Real FUN!
author: Pete VescovoThis is the best and most inspired original music to come out of Memphis in years. The Chi-Chi's music is spontaneous, eclectic, effortlessly performed and just down right GREAT!. Every musical style is "fair game" for the Chi-Chi's. I assure you that you will hear something you'll love. When listening to this CD over and over again and you will hear something new every time and you won't get tired of it either. My copy has been living in my cars' CD player for weeks. Be prepard to recharge your sense of humor, smile and enjoy tremendous talent that is seriously, second to none. When in Memphis, catch the Chi-Chi's live... it is totally worth the wait in line to get in to see them perform in person.
Man, this is the wiggiest stuff what AM ! ! ! !
author: Walt WoodsonNot since my young days hanging out in the lounges of Vegas of the late 50s have I been moved to grab Momma Linda and do the jump!!!!! Is this their ONLY record????
